Question Cards is the conversation game in TalkFlow: one phone, any number of people, and a deck of questions you work through together. There is no scoring, no winner and no timer — the game is the conversation. It works for a long car journey, a first date, a family dinner, or the quiet part of a party after the loud games have burned out.

There are 22 decks and about 5,800 cards, split across three families, plus ten decks that are scored tests rather than conversation prompts. This page explains how a round works, what each deck family is for, and how the test decks differ.

What You Need

  • Two or more people. There is no upper limit — the deck does not care how many of you there are. Two works as well as ten.
  • One phone. Pass it around, or let one person read the cards aloud.
  • No setup. Pick a deck and start. Nothing to shuffle, deal or score.
  • Optional: a reason to be honest. The deeper decks only work if people actually answer.

The Three Deck Families

Decks are grouped by what the conversation is for, not by difficulty. Pick the family that matches the room.

1. Connections — 8 decks

The general-purpose decks, for groups who already know each other or are about to. Family Ties and Friendship Sparks are the two biggest decks in the game and the ones to start with. What If, Would You Rather and Debates are lighter and argument-shaped. Who Among Us, Five Seconds and Have You Ever turn the deck into something closer to a party game.

Use with: friends, family, mixed groups, anyone.

2. Relationships — 8 decks

For two people rather than a room. Love Lines and First Date are conversation decks; Spicy Flames is the late-night one. The rest are scored: Love Language, Attachment Style, Couples Compatibility, Conflict Style and Flirting Style all end in a result rather than trailing off.

Use with: a partner, a date, or a friend you want to know properly.

3. Self Discovery — 6 decks

Decks you can run alone. Inner Journey is the largest deck in the whole game and is pure reflection — no scoring. The other five are proper tests: Personality, Big Five, Emotional Intelligence, Procrastination Type and Psychological Archetypes.

Use with: yourself, or a friend comparing results.

Two Kinds of Card

This is the part that catches people out. Decks look alike on the shelf but behave differently once you open them.

  • Conversation decks (12 of the 22) deal one question at a time. Swipe for the next one. There is no end — you stop when the conversation does.
  • Test decks (10 of the 22) ask a fixed set of questions and score your answers into a result: your attachment style, your love language, where you land on the Big Five. You answer on a scale rather than out loud, and the deck ends when the questions do.
  • Couples Compatibility is its own thing again — both people answer, and the result compares the two sets.

How a Round Works

  • Pick a deck. That is the whole setup.
  • Read the card. Aloud, if more than one of you is playing.
  • Everyone answers, or just the person holding the phone. Both work. Going round the circle is slower and usually better.
  • Swipe for the next card. Skipping is allowed and is not cheating.
  • Star the good ones. Saved cards go to Favourites so you can find them again.
  • Filter if the deck drifts. Narrow a deck by theme when the questions stop matching the mood.

Free and Premium Decks

  • Five decks are free, permanently: Family Ties, Friendship Sparks, Love Lines, Inner Journey and What If.
  • Those five include the three largest decks in the game, so the free tier is not a sample — it is thousands of cards.
  • The remaining 17 decks, including every scored test, come with Premium.

AI-Generated Cards

If a deck runs dry or you want questions about something specific, the game can generate new cards in the same format as the built-in ones. Describe the group or the topic and it writes questions to match — useful for a themed evening, a work team, or a family with a running joke no stock deck will ever know about.

Tips for a Session That Actually Works

  • Start shallower than you think. Open with Friendship Sparks or What If. Jumping straight into Inner Journey with people who are not ready kills the mood.
  • One question, everyone answers. The round is far better when all of you answer the same card than when each person gets their own.
  • Let silences run. The best answers arrive a few seconds after the awkward pause. Do not swipe to fill it.
  • Skip freely. A deck of 700 cards can afford to lose the ones nobody wants. Skipping fast is how you find the good ones.
  • Save the test decks for two people. Scored tests are a poor group activity — everyone waits while one person answers 50 questions.
  • Do not use it as an interview. If you ask and never answer, people stop being honest by about the fourth card.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Question Cards?

Question Cards is the conversation game in TalkFlow: a deck of questions you work through with other people on one phone. There is no scoring, no winner and no timer — the point is the conversation. It has 22 decks and roughly 5,800 cards.

How many players do you need for Question Cards?

Two or more, with no upper limit. Most decks work just as well for a pair as for a group of ten. Six of the decks are designed to be played alone, and the scored test decks are best with one or two people rather than a room.

Which Question Cards decks are free?

Five decks are free permanently: Family Ties, Friendship Sparks, Love Lines, Inner Journey and What If. Those five happen to include the three largest decks in the game, so the free tier runs to thousands of cards. The other 17 decks come with Premium.

What is the difference between a conversation deck and a test deck?

Conversation decks deal one question at a time and never end — you stop when the conversation does. Test decks ask a fixed set of questions and score your answers into a result, such as your attachment style or your love language. Twelve of the 22 decks are conversation decks; ten are tests.

Can I get questions about a specific topic?

Yes. The game can generate new cards in the same format as the built-in ones. Describe your group or the topic you want and it writes questions to match, which is useful for a themed evening or an in-joke no stock deck would know.

Is Question Cards good for a first date?

It is one of the better uses for it. The First Date deck exists for exactly this, and Love Lines works once things are less formal. Avoid opening with the scored tests — answering 50 scale questions is not a conversation.
